Welcome to Greece - this is the translation of the title. The same greeting was also on our arrival at the airport in large Greek letters in KOS.
already when we arrived, I realized that it would be a great holiday because that match our landing was the fiery red sun in the Mediterranean As. After we had collected our luggage, we boarded the bus and were driven to the hotel. Since the island of Kos, only 58 km in size (viewed from east to west), the bus ride did not take very long. At the hotel we checked in quickly and was then equal to dinner accompanied. The large selection of hot and cold dishes and a large Salatbufett surprised me.
Towards our room, accompanied us some hotel cats do einschleimen apparently something in the new arrivals. Since we had nothing to eat here, we the "cute" cat crapped right outside the door. Ne very nice welcome:) The room was well decorated and the balcony was Gen. beach just 25 meters away. We enjoyed the rest of the evening on our terrace ...
holiday there for my treasure unwind and relax - which is frankly my idea of vacation not so. I'm more of the excursion and type explorer. But like a friend said so well: "do not be so great expectations for the holidays, he will be very beautiful." So we spent the next day relaxing relax with, and explore the complex. The Aeolos Beach Hotel is a 4 star property, is not large and, all, no bed castle. In addition many green areas and a very large pool. The guests were from Italy, Switzerland and Germany and all very friendly.
We sometimes put a game outdoor chess one (where I could just win). In the evening we took a walk in the city of Kos, which was something 6km from the hotel. The first 4 km, we managed quite well despite the heat, until we eventually had no desire and at a bus stop on the carriage way waited. Once in the city we took a harbor tour and a stroll through the old town, bought some drinks and then made our back on the way home (by bus).
The Thursday morning remains for me because of the encounter with the Kackerlake in my case in memory. Did I perhaps shocked when I opened my suitcase and then only saw something scurry. The visitor is then removed, and then we get no longer be faced with other dogs.
On Friday we went the first time into the sea, which attracted high waves and a great view. After the sea is in front of the pool and it went straight on to the next water bath;). Thomas made the afternoon alone in the city to buy something. I preferred to stay at the hotel and relaxed a bit. I had already found after 2 days of pleasure in doing nothing and use every free minute to do NOTHING.
every evening animation program at the hotel pool. That evening there was a film music quiz. Thomas even recognized the song from the movie 1492 and thus secured a point. I also saw some tracks was too shy, but to report me. On Saturday we took a day trip to Kos town to give us the old city, some monuments and museums to see. The market square with its cafes and historic buildings, a beautiful tourist destination. In the Cafe "Gossip" can be very nice people-watching and blaspheme, as the name says it all already. Thomas indulged is this a Banana Split - always up to the hips, then)
we visited a mosque and the ruins of the Agora, followed by the Museum of Archaeology with statues of Hippocrates and the head of Demeter, which is a mother of three small Greek goddess from the Asian region. It is responsible for the fertility of the earth, grain, seeds and seasons. Hippocrates, however, was already highly revered during his lifetime. He is considered the founder of medicine as a science. On our stroll through the town we visited the St. Nicholas Church and the restored Casa Romana.
1933/34 Italian archaeologists put a once magnificent Roman Villa free, the walls were largely preserved than a man. In 1940 the villa was clear and then reconstructed again a roof. This one gets here from the living sense of the ancient Romans a much better idea than it is in many other ruins in the case.
After a short tour of the ODEON ROMA was on our trip plan. This is a small Roman theater from the 2nd Amphibian Century AD. Under construction can be viewed in tunnels on different panels, the history of the ODEON - this is very nicely done and recommended for all tourists only. Because the theater is somewhat remote, it took us again into the old town to the Bakery Cafe, where we indulged first something sweet. There followed a short shopping at the local supermarket Kostantinos before we made our way to the hotel.
Sunday was again reserved for relaxing sea, pool and evening entertainment as well and relaxation. Besides booked We got our rental car for our trip around the island on Monday. Monday was also our chance of month (the 11th now) and I'm still soooooo much in love as in our first Kennenlerntag. . About 9 clock we got our rental car and began our excursion
Our first destination was the most famous monument in Kos - the Asklipion, known in ancient Greek Asklipieion. The ancient shrine for the god of healing, Aesculapius to the Romans later called Asklipios. Italian archaeologists have it is partially reconstructed, so we got to see more than a few foundations. Moreover, it is embedded in greenery and offers a marvelous view of the coastal plain, the sea and the coast of Asia Minor. We also saw a large lizard, which I titled as always Gecko;)
Next we went over narrow roads in the mountains, where green forests interspersed with bare rocks. The higher we got, the more you could spy on the beautiful island. We visited a small local cemetery and learned that the dead in Greece were only about 3 years in the graves and the bones are then maintains otherwise. This is called then you probably grave sharing.
In Old Pylians we boarded one of the two mountains for us to look at a ruined castle and to visit at a dizzying height of a great restaurant. The ascent to the local enough for us already and then we surveyed the ruins from our peak. Especially worth seeing was the toilet, the more likely an open air toilet were in the rock. But very nicely done ....
past the airport we went to the Traditional House, coming along with a windmill. The cultural association of the island will take care of friendly to the guests of this house, which tells how Coan farmers lived until the mid-1950s. It was for a 14-member family set up after lifelike conditions without running water and electricity. Water was drawn at the village well and kept in jars in the house. Interestingly, the distribution of beds in a bed that is several residents had to sleep together. But we lived not poor, rather purposefully.
After all the sights it was time for a beach outing. So it took us to the EXOTIC BEACH - a very quiet and secluded beach with little pedestrian traffic. Besides, we also found another Geochach, a few meters from the beach. Well rested and cooled down we went to Kefalos - the western town on the island. Here we visited the ruins of the Basilica of Agios Stefanos.
The early Christian basilica is located on a small ledge directly on the beach of Kámbos level. Unlike the other basilicas of Kos, Agios Stefanos is the best preserved. It was discovered in 1932 by Italian archaeologists, who is based columns lined up again. Part of the walls are well preserved, the mosaics were, however, to protect against weathering covered with gravel. But what we did not stop to free the mosaic of gravel and admire.
As a last point we made on our trip, climbing the heights of the nearby mountains. We discovered some very beautiful places and to match the sunset we had a great time under the protection of some windmills. Then we went back to the hotel and I was really glad that the island is not all too great and the trip home so not longer than 40 minutes.
Tuesday was a rest day then back to the beach, sea, pool and cocktails. In the evening the hotel provided us with a fire show and fireworks followed. A very nice last night in a beautiful Hotel.
On our last day we went again on a trip to Kos town to buy some souvenirs and to give my 22 postcards;). We once again enjoyed the old town and a delicious Greek food. Then There Were our Bakery Cafe NEN Erdbeereeisbecher and a cooling iced coffee.
The return flight was delayed a bit, but what bothered me, since I was still on vacation. It was a wonderful holiday, the first with my treasure (and certainly not the last;)).
